Privacy Policy

Unscroll is a Bible reading app. This policy explains exactly what it stores, where, and who else sees it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
- You do not need an account to use Unscroll. The whole Bible, saving, notes, and sharing all work with no sign-up, and most of what you do never leaves your phone.
- We do not sell your data, and there are no ads in any version of the app.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We never send anything you write to anyone. Your notes stay on your device unless you create a household, and even then they are visible only to you.
Using Unscroll without an account
The Bible text ships inside the app, so reading works offline and involves no server at all.
These stay on your device only:
- The verses you save
- The notes you write
- Where you are in the feed, and where you last were in each book
- Your appearance, reading order, and share-image settings
If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.
The anonymous device identifier
When you first open the app it generates a random identifier for your device — a string of random characters, not linked to your name, email, phone number, Apple ID, or anything else about you. It exists for one reason: the AI study tools include a limited number of free studies, and this is how the app knows which studies this device has already been given.
It is sent only with study requests. It cannot be used to identify you, and we have no way to connect it to a person.
The AI study tools
Tapping Study asks our server for a written explanation of a verse. That request contains a verse number, the name of the tool, and the anonymous device identifier above. Nothing else.
Our server looks up the King James text itself and sends that text to Anthropic, which generates the study. The app is not able to send your own words to an AI provider, because there is no field in the request that could carry them — this is enforced in the design, not by a setting.
Anthropic receives the Bible text and the name of the tool. It does not receive your device identifier, your name, your notes, or anything else about you.
Studies are shared, not personal. A study of John 3:16 is identical for everyone, so it is generated once, stored, and served to every reader after that. Nothing about who asked for it is stored alongside it.
Reporting a study
Every study has a Report control. Using it sends us the verse, which tool it was, the version of the instructions used, and the text of the study you were looking at — so we can find the mistake and correct it for everyone.
The text we receive is the text we generated. There is no free-text field, so there is nothing for you to write and nothing of yours to send. The anonymous device identifier is included so that repeated reports from one device can be recognised.
Households
A household is optional. If you never use the Family screen, no account is ever created and nothing in this section applies to you.
Creating or joining a household creates an account. At that point we store:
- A display name you choose. One field, asked once, and it is whatever you want your family to call you. We do not use your Apple ID name, and we do not ask for a legal name.
- Which household you belong to, and whether you started it.
- Invite codes for your household, and who created them.
- The device identifier above, linked to your account, so the free studies you already had are not lost when you sign in.
Once you have an account, your saves, notes and reading progress are also copied to our servers so they are not lost with the phone. They remain private to you. Other members of your household cannot see them. This is enforced by the database itself, not by a setting in the app.
Sending a verse, and read receipts
Members of a household can send each other a verse. We store who sent it, who it was for, which verse, when it was sent, and whether it has been opened.
We deliberately do not store when it was opened. There is no column for it, so there is no version of this app that could show a family member a timeline of when you read something. Opened, or not opened. That is all there is.
A verse sent to one person is visible only to the sender and the recipient — not to other members of the household.
Who else processes this information
- Supabase hosts our database and handles accounts.
- Anthropic generates the study text, from Bible text only, as described above.
- Apple handles any purchase you make. We never see your card details.
We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or attribution services.
What we do not collect
We do not collect or request your location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health data, browsing history, or advertising identifier. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not combine what you do here with information from anywhere else.
Children
Unscroll is rated 12+ and is not intended for children under 13.
A household may still include a child, because a parent can invite one. If you invite a child into your household, you are choosing to create an account for them and you are responsible for that decision on their behalf.
What is stored for a child is the same as for anyone else, and it is deliberately very little: a first name they choose, which household they are in, and the verses sent within it. There is nothing in the app for a child to publish, and no way for anyone outside the household to contact them through it.
If you are a parent or guardian and want a child’s account and everything in it deleted, write to hello@unscrollapp.com and we will delete it. We will not ask you to justify the request.
Keeping and deleting information
- Studies and the shared Bible text are kept indefinitely; they are not about you.
- Everything tied to your account is kept while the account exists.
- Deleting the app deletes everything held on your device.
- To delete your account and everything we hold for you, write to hello@unscrollapp.com. We will delete it and confirm when it is done.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will say so in the app rather than only updating this page.
